Our Story

Bridge the Gap started with a block of cheese.

Standing in a Wegmans supermarket, staring at an unfamiliar cheese with no clue how to use it — that moment of quiet confusion is something every immigrant, international student, and traveler knows. It's rarely about the food itself. It's about missing the context that locals carry invisibly.

Around the same time, millions of people from China and the West found each other on RedNote during the TikTok migration — and discovered that ordinary, friendly exchange dissolves stereotypes faster than any headline ever could.

Bridge the Gap is built on one belief: cultural friction is highest in mundane moments, and those moments are exactly where real connection can begin. We use food as the medium — because everyone eats, everyone is curious, and every ingredient carries a story someone grew up with.

Here, AI gives you instant cultural context. But the heart of the platform is people: perspectives written by those who grew up with an ingredient, questions answered across cultures, and small moments of confusion turned into conversations.

Every perspective shared makes the map a little richer. We'd love yours.

How we handle data

We collect anonymous usage patterns (like which ingredients are searched by people from which cultural backgrounds) to understand cross-cultural curiosity. We never track individuals — no names, emails, or identities are ever stored in our analytics.
